Daphne walks towards the kitchen. Small bruises are on her body. The light on her neck is steady then flickers.
A little girl in a frilly dress, CARA (8, Hispanic) sits at the table and draws. A plate of cookies is next to her.
Paul enters Daphne's view and walks to Cara.
PAUL
Cara is mute. Can’t make a sound. But she can hold a grudge! Doesn’t like that she’s been in her room all week. Even if we’re not flesh and blood, we can be a family...if you can behave.
PAUL
Cara, this is Daphne. She’s like you, she doesn’t talk.
